I think the "new normal" is an invocation that suggests the opposite of what it's actually saying -- we say the "new normal" hoping that it's a temporary normal instead of a permanent evolution of life. we are always in a new normal and it's usually unexpected. We would love to think life gets easier after 2020 -- but we don't really know that. We hope the "new normal" will go away and give us back something more comfortable and familiar.
